From Lab to Real World: Flexiled’s Airtight Fire-Safe Design
To Demonstrate That Our Flexiled Does Not Allow a Flow of Air
To test a serious flaw found in many installed ceiling downlights — uncontrolled air leakage through the fitting — I constructed a fully sealed wooden trial box.
The internal dimensions of the box were 400 mm × 400 mm × 200 mm.
Flexiled (Number 7) was installed on one external face exactly as it would be fitted into a real ceiling.
On the opposite face, a commercial high-power fan was positioned to deliver continuous, fast, and forceful airflow directly toward the Flexiled installation.
Inside the box, three burning candles were placed to act as visual airflow indicators.
Despite the intense external air pressure:
No air entered the box through the Flexiled.
The candle flames remained steady and upright.
This clearly demonstrates that: Flexiled forms a perfect airtight seal. Because fire requires oxygen movement to grow or spread:
- If air cannot flow,
- A flame cannot draw fresh oxygen,
- And therefore fire cannot propagate.
Flexiled is manufactured from a silicone-based, fire-retardant organic material enhanced with small amounts of graphene, giving it excellent thermal stability and high resistance to flame.
More importantly, its precision-engineered sealing design blocks all airflow through the opening.
The experiment confirms that:
- No airflow occurred,
- No oxygen passed through the Flexiled front face,
- The fire inside the box could not spread.
Independent Laboratory Verification
In addition to this real-world test, external independent laboratory reports have confirmed that Flexiled withstands a 90-minute fire check, further validating its performance as a high-integrity fire-resistant sealing system.
This proves that Flexiled:
- Prevents oxygen flow,
- Stops the spread of fire,
- Acts as an effective airtight barrier, and
- Meets certified 90-minute fire-resistance standards.
No air flow — no spread of fire.
